When it comes to bending the universe, it seems like having a few special abilities just might be needed. Some that come to mind might be super strength, telepathy, super genius level IQ, invisibility, or some other amazingness. Although helpful and pretty damn cool, nothing like that is required. In fact, the only abilities you need, you have been developing since birth. The best part is every living soul on the planet has the abilities. The problem lies in how you use them or don’t use them.
If you know me personally or have read any of my other articles, then you have heard me say, “Life is nothing more than a series of choices.” Even during the times when you think you don’t have a choice, you still have a choice. It may be a difficult choice, but you still have a choice. Knowing and accepting this truth is crucial to properly developing and using your first most powerful ability. Have you guessed what that ability is yet? No. I’ll tell you. It is responsibility. With every choice that we make, unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the outcome or consequences. However, we can always choose to make decisions that we feel are in our best interest and accept the consequences of those decisions. We can do our due diligence, so we don’t cause harm to ourselves and other people. We can gather most or all of the facts to make better informed decisions. On the other hand, we can be reckless and aimless, and accept whatever life throws at us while we go with the flow. But this irresponsible reactive approach to life will make it virtually impossible to bend the universe. Proactivity is needed. As you can imagine, bending the universe is not easy, you will be tested.
So far, I’ve only told you about one of your powerful abilities. The reality is that these two abilities you and I have work best when they are used in sequence. Your second powerful ability is accountability. Honestly, they are almost the same thing, but I prefer to look at them differently. I see responsibility as making choices of our own accord and independent of outside influences. I see accountability as learning from the choices we have made, whether they were considered good or bad choices, and using what we have learned to make better choices later on. For example, if you leave your bag unattended and get robbed, you’re responsible for leaving your bag unattended so you could be robbed. Being accountable means that next time you won’t leave your bag unattended, or you won’t bring a bag altogether or you will do something to prevent the same outcome as before. As another example, if you want to lose weight, you are responsible for what you eat, how many calories you consume, and how much exercise you do. Accountability means making the changes necessary to achieve your weight loss goals based on the choices you previously made.
Getting a handle on responsibility and accountability is crucial to being able to bend the universe. With practice, you will begin to make better choices, learn from them, and then make even better choices. You will begin to develop a sixth sense for bad ideas. You’ve probably had that gut feeling that what you or someone else is considering just isn’t right. Some call it instinct. If you are a fan of the MCU, you may call it a Spidey Sense. Regardless of what you call it, start honing those two powerful abilities of yours. Using responsibility and accountability wisely, you won’t need super strength to move mountains and you won’t need to be King Midas to start seeing everything you touch turn to gold.
